The book "Brown like Dosas, Samosas and Sticky Chikki" by Rebecca Manari, illustrated by Heetal Dattani Joshi, deals with one of the most sensitive topics to talk to a child - his /her complexion.
.
This is a beautiful story with a sprinkling of a magic interlude. Most part of the book is a dialogue between a purple princess (Anahi) and the chocolate complexioned protagonist (Samaira). The latter talks about how she wants to be herself and loves her own "coffee brown cheeks and chocolate brown arms.” The illustrations are astoundingly beautiful.
.
What won brownie points with us is that this book talks about loving oneself and one’s skin colour and doesn’t bash any other skin tone. It is the respect that it gives to people of all shades that really sets this book apart. .
